John McGeough is currently on the government affairs committee for the Greater Boston Association of Realtors® and also is a Trustee for the 2012 Charitable Foundation. Anthony Lamacchia is currently on the Government Affairs Committee for the Massachusetts Association of Realtors®. John and Anthony take these roles very seriously and are honored to be a part of these committees.
One of the key issues they are pursuing this year is for the state of Massachusetts to adopt the 2007 Mortgage Relief Act which allows homeowners to exclude debt forgiven through a short sale as income. John and Anthony are also working with the associations on other issues such as the Act Regulating Secondary Metals Dealing, new proposed legislation that addresses the illegal stripping and dealing of metal, particularly copper pipes, from vacant homes. The bill would require more accurate record keeping and tracking of scrap metal to assist law enforcement in ensuring that stolen metals are more easily recovered.
On the national level, John and Anthony are active with the National Association of Realtors Government Affairs staff. They are in frequent contact with the staff to stay updated on the issues facing Realtors® and housing nationwide. In 2011, they traveled to Washington D.C. three times to meet with members of the National Association as well as members of Congress, the Senate, and other regulatory agencies.
Anthony is also a member of the Realtors® Political Action Committee (RPAC). This committee gives financial support to members of Congress and the Senate who support real estate causes. This committee gives Anthony insight into various issues facing the housing market.
Anthony and John enjoy being a part of all of these great groups and are always happy to do what they can to support other Realtors® and the real estate market as a whole.
